7th January 2004- Happy New Year to all our visitors! Hope that you have had a good start to the New Year? I hope to revamp the webpages over the coming months, but it will depend on my workload and free time.

The club's 2004 swimming diary is now available, [You can open the file with virtually any text editor on your computer] and will be updated as and when with any new fixture dates. The webpage is also available.

Our first Gala of the New Year will be the Speedo League at the Harrogate Hydro Pool on Sunday 11th January, See you there!

Don't forget our A/B Gala details will be available very soon, but could I remind you all that the event does fill up very quickly each year. Entries will not be accepted before 15th February. More detail on our A/B website soon.

I have updated the links page to show club links, and hope to continue to update this page.

19th January 2004 - It proved to be a tough Speedo Gala at Harrogate, with just two wins from the 50 swam! - Hey! we are a town after all, competing against the cities and districts out there! There were a good number of PB's however. Have a look at the report from the gala.

The Yorkshire Championships are ever looming, and entries for the Senior/Junior event should be sent/handed to me ASAP [21st latest] One important change to the rules for this year is that the definition of a Junior is now under 16 years of age on the 29th February 2004.

29th January 2004 - The entry forms, times and Programme for the A/B Gala 19th/20th June 04 is available for download from this webpage. All three documents are available in a self extracting zip document, and can be found here.

Please note that you should have Microsoft Office Installed onto your computer for viewing the documents. I have also put html webpages for the programme and entry times, which some may find better for viewing [ they may not print complete on one page - sorry!] I am working on a printable entry form, direct from the web. Please email me if you have difficulties in obtaining the above forms - I have tried them on my computer, and can download them no problem.

No nine year olds will be allowed to swim this year - this will be reviewed again next year.

4th February 2004 - After some perseverance from me, I've produced a web-based entry form, which you can print out. Please remember to set your browser to print 'Landscape' rather than the normal 'portrait' setting. The form contains all the required details. Please remember to put down your email address, as we intend to send you a draft entry for you to check over. Please remember, we are not taking entries before the 15th February.

23rd February 2004 - Entries are underway for our A/B Gala, and the places are going very well! In fact, over 50% of available places have now gone! We urge any clubs who wish to enter this year to get their entries off to the competition secretary as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Scarborough got off to winning ways in the first of the Ridings League Division 1 Galas on Saturday. Full details can be found here. We have had a number of our swimmers taking part in a hour long distance swim, with 22 swimmers taking part. They achieved nearly 70 Km between them, so well done to them all!

We also had a friendly league gala as well as swimmers taking part in Harrogate a few weeks ago. Reports can be found here.

28th February 2004 - Entries into the A/B Gala have been coming thick and fast, and there is now a grave danger of some clubs that will be disappointed due to the sheer demand of the event! Such is the demand of the event, it looks likely that we shall be organising another A/B type of event in September!

Details of the hour-long swim can be found here.

6th March 2004 - Just to let all clubs know that our A/B Gala is now completely full! A list of clubs who will be attending the Gala will be posted on this site soon. The event secretary, Cynthia Harvey, will have no doubt been in contact with those clubs who were unsuccessful in gaining entry to our popular seaside gala.

The club has enjoyed a successful Yorkshire Senior/Junior Championships, where no fewer than SIX bronze medals were secured - and for the first time, a Ladies team relay - Well done Girls! The club was also recently in action during a friendly league gala [2nd one of the season] - a report will appear in due course.

Could I remind all club members that they will soon be asked to pay their ASA membership fees, by the end of March.

9th April 2004 - The club has been very busy during the last month or so, and to indulge my passion for waxing lyrical, I intend to put what's happening on a separate page, thus freeing up this page for more summarised information. Please have a look at this page, and tell me what you think!

5th May 2004 - Just to get our September Gala up and running, please find the web programme and web-based entry form for the event. Hope clubs can use these documents rather than the 'word' forms. Any problems or queries, please contact the event Secretary direct at Cynthia Harvey who will be able to help you.

9th May 2004 - A number of Galas have taken place, and all the details can be read here. I have also updated the monthly newsletter for recent happenings in the club.

12th May 2004 - Report follows the clubs Friendly league success of a few weeks ago.

18th June 2004 - Sorry there hasn't been many updates these past weeks - it's not that the club has been standing still, but I have been in hospital, and unable to update the pages! - Sorry!

Due to a unforeseen problem, a programme of entries will not be available on this website- sorry about this. We are all beavering away in getting everything ready for our guests during the weekend, but the weather forecast is not good (Out of our control this one!) please bring your brollies, I have a feeling you will be using them! We look forward to welcoming you all to Scarborough - and Scarborough Swimming Club!

A number of reports have been added to the gala report page, namely the BLDSA event in Wykeham on the 12th June, as well as the Open water Grand Prix event in Lochure Meadow in Scotland. There has also been activity in the NECASA Agegroup Champs, where our Mills' Brothers have been competing.

Also during this weekend, the British Open Water 5km and 10km, plus the Junior 3km Champs will be taking place in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, where a number of our swimmers will be competing. Full report to follow. Full results from the LEN cup, 3km, 5km and 10km, both men and women, can be found in a zipped format here. (Very small file)

22nd June 04 - The results for our A & B Gala will appear on this site soon. For club members, please read the report. The Gala record page has been duly updated, and it is regretted that the records did not appear in the programme over the weekend, as I know that many of you out there enjoy looking at the records.

23rd June 04 - I've now updated the Monthly newsletter page.

29th June 04 - Sorry about the delay folks, but here at last are the results from our A & B gala. The documents are in Microsoft 'Word' format. Saturday Morning Session / Saturday Afternoon Session / Sunday Session.

3rd July 04 - The results from today's Open Water event at a very wet and windy Wykeham are now available here.

7th July 04 - The results and reports from both of the NECASA' s Open water events are available here. and available here.

From the weekend's events, Aaron Yeoman has now moved into second place in the British Open Water Grand Prix and team-mate Adam Harvey in 6th place.

14th July 04 - The club has had a most successful Ridings League victory, which places the Champions firmly at the top of the league. With Kingfisher's home gala scheduled for October 2nd, the championships are shaping up to be the closest contest for a number of years, where a victory will assure the club the championship for a further year.

18th July 04 - Another Open Water Grand Prix event at Bosworth Water, (18th) with Aaron Yeoman winning the event, and collecting 22 points. He now is second in the Grand Prix for the third year running! There is also a report from the Scottish Nationals from earlier in the Month (1-4th July) (Courtesy of Lynda Mills) as well as a look forward to the National Champs to be held in Sheffield. A full report will follow.

More open water has taken place at Llyn Padarn in Wales, where a number of swimmers took part. There were many winners for the club, and for the second year running, the club brought back the Junior trophy. 31st July sees Aaron Yeoman back in action for the penultimate round of the Open water grand prix - full report to follow.

The monthly newsletter (July) has been put together for your reading enjoyment!

4th August 2004 - Report for Open Water Grand Prix event at Salford is available, and the report for Llyn Padarn and the National Age Group Championships will soon be available here. Aaron Yeoman claimed third place in the National Grand Prix. The competition in this year's event has been much tougher, with the Scots producing a number of high calibre swimmers, in adding to his runners-up slots of 2002 and 2003, it is an achievement he can be justifiably proud!

22nd August 2004 - Open water continues with a number of swimmers doing well in BLDSA events at Albert Dock, Liverpool and Derwentwater. The club is now looking forward to the Sprint Gala on the 4th September, and the Age group Open water champs at Holme Pierrepont on the 28th August, as well as the Les Rouse Open water chase event. Could I take this opportunity to remind all club members to get their entries in for the Yorkshire Winter Gala by the 2nd September - Entries to me please ASAP.

29th August 2004 - The results from the British Open Water Age Group Championships can be found here, and a report for our own swimmers can be found here. A report for Team Yorkshire is also provided.

Les Rouse annual Open water handicap race takes place on Monday 30th August, let's hope the weather is good. (30th) The event was followed by an handover ceremony which saw our new safety boat formally given over to the club - Thanks to all concerned in their fund raising exploits.

Plans continue with the Sprint Gala on the 4th September - Anyone who would like to help out on the day is asked to contact Lorraine Yeoman.

5th September 2004 - The gala went very well yesterday, and ended with a very exciting 'skins' event! Congratulations goes to our very own Alistair Mills who won this inaugural event here in Scarborough. The results can be obtained from the links at the top of this page - either in zipped form, using winzip or such, or as word documents for the three sessions. I would like to thank personally all the officials and helpers of both Scarborough Swimming Club and the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers, who helped at the gala, especially those who came in at short notice from visiting clubs - your help is most appreciated!

6th September 2004 - Writeup for the Charity Sprint Gala is available. Scarborough win second Pocklington Times Gala at Askern on 5th Sept - Result: Scarborough 111, South Axeholme 106, Askern Spa 94, Edlington 87

Didn't we do well? Write up will follow soon. I will update the PB webpages when I can, which will be from the Sprint gala and the Pocks.

11th September 2004 - Another great team performance saw the club win the Second Pocklington Times gala on the 5th September. Next gala is at home next week, Sunday 19th September.

12th September 2004 - Entry form, the programme and events can be downloaded at the top of the page for the forthcoming Ridings Championships which will be held on the 30th October and the 13th November.

A Ridings Division 1 gala was held last night where Scarborough Swimming Club did not swim. It was won by Kingsfisher's. The final Ridings gala on the 2nd October will decide the league Champions - Will it be Scarborough - the reigning League Champions, or will it be new boys on the block, Kingfishers? - Don't Miss it!! The results can be found on the galareports2004 page. The current League stands: Kingfishers 10pts (418galapoints), Scarborough 10pts (412galapoints), South Holderness 8pts (398galapoints), Thirsk 8pts (382galapoints), Ryedale 4pts (358galapoints) Ryedale are virtually relegated at this stage!

20th September 2004 - Club Championships programme can be viewed here. Why not have a go! A great weekend of swimming where the club won the Pocklington Times gala on Sunday afternoon, with many swimmers also taking part - and winning medals - in the NECASA Masters Championships and the District Schools Champs as well as the Army Cadets Swimming Champs too! Details to follow.

28th September 2004 - A report is now available for the Pock Times gala held on Sunday 19th September.

4th October 2004 - As many of our readers know already, Scarborough Swimming Club has lost the Ridings championship to neighbours Scarborough Kingfishers in a very tense gala held at the indoor pool on Saturday (2nd Oct) night. Many emotions were running wild during the course of the evening, and it was left to Kingfishers to savour the moment of their victory. The report of all the action can be read here.

With that in mind, and with Kingfishers enjoying their first Ridings League 1 Championship win, and with them just about to celebrate in their 25 year history in November, Myself and Aaron have been delving through the microfiche in Scarborough Library and carried out some research work during our 111 year history! We went back into the archives, 1893 to be precise - the year of the club's formation, when it moved away from Scarborough Rowing Club. Didn't know we were part of the Rowing club back then? Well, continue reading to find out more.

We found a vast amount of interesting reading, and our research work will continue. What we intend doing is providing some interesting facts and news from back in 1893 which I will provide in like a Diary form for the year. I will provide the first bumper installment soon, and then continue to add to it as I find interesting items relating to our glorious club's History. I know many of you will find it a joy to read! - More to come on this later.

10th October 2004 - A small report relating to the ESSA Regional finals held at the Ennerdale pool, appears on the galareports2004 page. Congratulations go to Sarah Roberts and the Mills' Brothers, Laurence and Gareth on reaching the National finals to be held in Coventry on 22/23rd October.

17th October 2004 - Please find the report from the successful Yorkshire Winter Competition - 9th/10th October.

26th October 2004 - Victory came in the Pocklington League Division 2 at New Earswick on Saturday (23rd October)

Result was: Scarborough 164pts, South Axeholme 151pts, New Earswick 105pts.

Full report to come. Many of the swimmers dashed back from Coventry where they were taking part in the ESSA Divisional Swimming Finals, where a number of excellent swims were achieved.

A timekeeper's course and exam will be held at Raincliffe School on Saturday 6th November between 0900-1300. Approximately 16 club members will be taking this National qualification, which is part of our Swim21 training programme.

8th November 2004 - Sorry for the delay in updating the site - especially to clubs wanting to check the complete set of results. The link is at the top of the page, but has been reproduced again here.

Things have been very busy as of late, especially for yours truly - I have been busy producing and presenting an ASA Timekeepers course, where we had 16 successful candidates. The course is part of our Swim21 process, in which we shall also be training our volunteers to become Judges in the near future. Everyone involved with the club, has been very busy ensuring we achieve the Swim21 accreditation here in Scarborough.

Our swimmers have also been busy in the water - Swimmers participating in the first of the Ridings League Championships (30th October results) (Report) with the next series due on the 13th November. A report will appear here soon. We have also had some swimmers taking part in the NECASA gala held at Harrogate over the weekend. We have also held the first session of our club championships - 1500m and 800m events - Congratulations go to Aaron Yeoman on winning the 1500m for the fourth year running, and Sarah Roberts, who has won the trophy for the past two years. Again, reports will appear on the galareports page soon. Many of the young swimmers who took part, secured personal best times.

Our club's history has for now taken a bit of a back seat, although I do have quite a bit to get onto the website - it will appear all in good time I'm afraid.

Some advanced news - I shall be moving over to broadband very soon, and much of the website may well start appearing on Wanadoo webspace. Before I move, I will advertise the club's new opening page on this website. It is, however, likely that the address : www.wiz.to/scarboroughswim will still take you to our site. Please watch out for an announcement of this website - it won't be for a number of weeks yet however.

11th December 2004 - By the length of time there hasn't been anything new on this website, you would be quite wrong to think that nothing has been happening here in Scarborough. Far from it! The run-in to Christmas has been a very hectic one for both the swimmers and club members alike. In the pool, we have had swimmers excel and win Gold and Silver medals in the NECASA Senior and Junior Championships, we have had swimmers winning Gold at the 1500m event at Howe Bridge Merlins, and more success at Wear Valley designated meet. We have also been very busy with all our club championships which have been spread over three sessions, and the fact that I have been decorating my computer room, and the computer has been in bits all over the room, but that's another story...

The club has been very active in preparation for Swim21 accreditation, and it is hoped that the new year will bring some greatly anticipated news on this front. We held our trophy and medals presentation night on the 8th December - Congratulations to all those swimmers who received an award.

Webpages will start to appear on Wanadoo webspace very soon, but all areas of the old website should still be available on Ntlworld, and old reports results etc, will still be accessible.

We have also suffered the disappointment of not enjoying promotion from Pocklington League Division Two, due to the restructuring that has taken place for next year, where there will be four divisions each with four teams. Once again, this club has suffered from the hands of Bureaucracy. Talking of bureaucracy, we have also held our Annual General Meeting, where club members were informed that the club intended to strive forward in a progressive manner for the good and benefit of its members, and the club had much to look forward to in 2005.

There are still a number of outstanding reports, namely the Ridings League Championships held on 13th November, where our swimmers had a wonderful gala, and broke a number of records too. A report for our younger swimmers for badges and swimming achievements gained can be found here.

Scarborough Swimming Club would like to wish all it's readers a very happy Christamas, and a wonderful New Year!
