At the end of August, three swimmers travelled down to Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham for the British Open Water 5 Km and Age Group Inter Counties Championships.
Scarborough Swimming club has enjoyed much success in these championships over the years, with Aaron Yeoman winning the National5 Km Bronze medal and with many top ten placings from a host of our swimmers. This year was no exception with swimmers Adam Harvey, Julie Owen and Sarah Roberts flying the flag for the club.
Julie Owen could have been expected to bring home a medal after her recent successes at Wykeham Lake but she finished 4th with Adam Harvey coming home in 7th place. Sarah Roberts competed in the Age Group where she swam the 2Km event, and finished 2nd overall. However, Yorkshire finished a disappointing 7th place, considering the County have been crowned champions in recent years.
See all the results on the Open Water Page.
Other News - Your club was recently successful in having its revised constitution accepted by the North Eastern Region. On matters financial, and taken directly from the Regional minutes:
Finance Matters
126.1 The Minutes of the Finance Committee Meeting held on 18 April were received and considered. Following Discussion, it was AGREED that:
(a) there should be a minimum combined affiliation plus per capita fee
of £50 to cover the cost of servicing the club, league or local
association,
(b) there should be a staged increase in the per capita fee as follows:
50p in 2008; 25p in 2009; and 25p in 2010,
(c) the entry fee for individual events should be increased to £5.50,
(d) entries should be accepted after the closing date and up to 1 hour
before the start of the competition session at a cost of £10 per entry,
(e) admission charges for spectators should be £3 per day; £5 per
weekend, £8 for two weekends when booked at the same time,
(f) there should be no change to the entry fee for team events.
When you consider that the Club affilation fee for 2007-08 was £27.00, the rise to £50 is nearly 100%, and if I'm correct, the amount our club pays to the Region on behalf of it's members moves from £2.00 (07-08) to £2.50 (2008-09), £2.75 (2009-10) and £3.00 in 2010-11. We currently pay 15p per member to the Yorkshire ASA, and there is no news on what the new figure will be. More bad news:
The ASA Board paper on Membership fees for 2008 was received. It was noted that the
ASA membership fees for 2008 will be as follows:
Category One £ 4.75 (up from £4.25)
Category Two £18.00 (up from £17.50)
Category Three £ 3.50 (up from £3.00)
When club fees for next year are discussed by the committee before the club's AGM in December, the above price increases will be taken into consideration.
