15th November 2007 - The club can now confirm the dates for its annual 'seaside' gala in 2008, which will be held over weekend 20th-22nd June 2008. All the details can be found on the A&B 2008 webpage Don't forget we are also hosting our 1st "In the Zone" Sprint Gala on the 9th February 2008 too. I have also received news from the recently held North East Regional Championships and news about Paul Hargreaves swimming and development:

Paul Hargreaves / City of Sheffield Swim Squad Update
ASANER Championship - Neptune Pool, Middlesbrough 3-4th November 2007

Paul, 18 years, joined the City of Sheffield Swim squad at the beginning of September after the Squad was recommended to him by Scarborough Chief Coach Sam Greetham who has looked after Paul's development since he was aged 9.
The attractions at Sheffield include excellent training facilities and a modern 50 metre pool, an ambitious coach in Russ Barber who has already brought swimmers through to represent GB and is recognised as one of the most talented young coaches in the country.
During the last 2 years of his development at Scarborough, Paul has climbed quickly up the National rankings in his favoured breaststroke events and is enthusiastic that he can now train and compete at Sheffield with the 2006 British Senior 200 breaststroke champion James Kirton, and the Youth National 100 breaststroke champion Max Patridge.
Paul trains in the pool 9 sessions, over 18 hours each week with 4 additional dry land sessions, many of the pool sessions starting at Sam in the morning.
His first competitive outing for the Sheffield Squad was at the North East Senior Championships in early November, where he had a very successful weekend winning a handful of medals in the breaststroke and individual medley senior events. Paul made the finals of all 3 breaststroke events, in the 50m breast sprint Paul swam a strong race to win the Gold medal in a personal best time ( 29.93 ).
The 100 breast final turned out to be a battle between Paul and his Sheffield colleague James Kirton, Paul held the lead for 75 metres in an exciting contest but was narrowly defeated taking the Silver medal in (1.04.62). The 200 breast event brought another medal as Paul took the bronze medal in (2.20.29) His final event of the weekend was the Individual Medley where he put in another strong swim to take the Silver medal in (2.08.97)
Scarborough Chief coach Sam Greetham was at the pool to support Paul and his other young protégé's , two of whom Laurence Mills and Ross Glegg were representing Kingston upon Hull as part of the clubs progressive development plan.
Ross aged 15 was swimming in these Senior Championships for the first time and did not disappoint his coach with some excellent performances. His best came during the 100 back event where Ross swam (1.02.83) to make his first senior final and improved on that time in the final to take the junior bronze medal in an impressive best time of (1.02.42). He also achieved personal best times in all his other events competing in the 400 freestyle where he knocked over 3 seconds of his previous time swimming ( 4.18.46), 200 free (2.01.58), 100 free (56.49) and 50 free (26.03) .
Laurence Mills was also in excellent form and joined Ross in the 100 back final to make it the first time that two Scarborough based swimmers had made the same senior final in this event. Laurence swam (1.02.56) to reach the final and a personal best time of (1.01.71) in the final to finish 4th and narrowly missing a medal. It was a similar story in the 200 back event where Laurence again reached the final in (2.11.53) and improved on this time in a thrilling final to again narrowly miss the medals finishing 4th in another personal best of (2.10.88) .
Laurence had a busy weekend in the pool and also competed in the 100 free (55.80), the 200 free (2.00.17) and 200 Individual Medley (2. 16.36). Both Laurence and Ross were part of the Kingston Upon Hull A team that swam strongly in the 200 freestyle relay.
There were also other competitors from Scarborough Meric Inan and Hannah Broadley. Specialist sprinter Hannah aged 13 was one of the youngest swimmers at the Championships and performed creditably in the 50 free to finish in (31.05). Meric has joined the Scarborough club only this year and travels daily from Bridlington to be coached by Sam Greetham. He has improved considerably during the year and aged 15 was competing at theses Championships for the first time. He was not overawed by the competition and impressed his coach with strong swims in the 100 free (58.55) and particularly the 400 free where he swam a personal best time of (4.28.86).

7th November 2007 - The club has been holding it's Club championships over recent weeks and so far, 6 records have fallen, and so far, 73 personal best times have been set during the 17 events run to date. I am awaiting the times and placings for the recently held Boy/Girls Open 100m Freestyle, and these results will appear her soon.

Julie Owen, always up against it to take the 10 year old record of Helen Douthwaite (1.13.25) did the next best thing by winning her third Gold during the very close finish in the Girls Open 100m Breaststroke, when she just touched ahead of Sarah Roberts who finished in 1.21.98, with Julie snatching the Gold medal away from her to finish in 1.21.03. 13 year old Hannah Broadley won her first medal of the championships by taking the bronze medal in 1.36.70.

Laurence Mills was another trying to break his brother Alistair's 3 year old record of 1.00.80, but the younger sibling was unsuccessful but was pleased with winning the Gold medal during the 100m Backstroke finishing in 1.01.28, with Ross Glegg a hand's length behind in silver place to finish with a personal best of 1.01.67 and the youngest of the Mills' brothers, Gareth Mills ,14, taking the bronze medal in 1.08.11
