Latest update Here as at 30th June 2007

3rd June 2007 - The 'busy' month for the club has finally arrived! We are all looking forward to our A & B Gala on the 16th and 17th.

For all our visitors to the Gala, a Programme of events can be viewed for all 4 sessions. Please note that you will NOT be unable to print or copy any of the text from the PDF files. You are advised to check that your team's/swimmer's entries are correct, but please remember that any improvement times will not be added/changed at this late state. You can contact the event coordinator, Steve Roberts (derwent.house@btinternet.com) if there are any entry concerns. You can also contact me, the webmaster, Paul Yeoman at my email address (paulyeoman@yahoo.com)

Now, down to the Programme of events:

You will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files.

All we need is the good weather as in previous years. We are looking forward to seeing our good friends from 'down South' - The Swans from St Neots, as well as the many clubs from our own neck of the woods. Welcome one and all. ( I doubt I shall ever get a club from my Native Cornwall to the North Yorkshire Coast, but you never know...)

9th June 2007 - (Edited 17th June 2007) Our club swimmers have been having a busy time so far in June, with at least 9 swimmers in Sheffield for the North Eastern Region's Bagcat Championships, and early reports that there have been medal winners and many finals so far, with the first gala swam last weekend, 2nd and 3rd June, and again this weekend, 9th and 10th June. Swimmers to get to finals so far are Gareth Mills, Ross Glegg, Ben Moverley and Jack Colley - In addition, 11 year old Samantha Gibson competed in her first Regional Championships, and swam excellently in the heats where she performed in the 200m Freestyle (2.39.52) and again in the 100m Backstroke (1.23.10) and can feel very pleased with two top 30 finishes as well as two personal best times. Congratulations go to her and all the other club swimmers who did so well.

Brief results, which show Scarborough swimmers which include Gareth Mills, Ross Glegg and Jack Colley swimming for Kingston Upon Hull. Our swimmers have received at least 15 finals, which is probably unprecedented in the club's history. The club is being represented by its swimmers at the highest level! No local club can boast such success. (Apologies if I have missed anyone out, but yet to receive official results) are:

Our junior club members are in action as I type this email, where they are competing in the second gala on the North Yorkshire Swimming League. To jog your memories, the result of the first gala held at Thirsk on Saturday 10th March 2007 saw the club come runners-up to the home time. What must be remembered is that this gala is the club's development where the vast majority of swimmers are seeing league gala action for the first time, and is considered an ideal training environment in preparation for competition at a higher level such as the Yorkshire and Regional Agegroup championships.

Result from Gala 1 held at Thirsk on 10th March is:

1st Thirsk White Horse 163pts, 2nd Scarborough SC 127pts, 3rd Ryedale 110pts, 4th Derwent Valley 83pts (Result from the second gala is below!)

The club has also had Open Water swimmers competing for the first time this year, and through the grapevine I have heard that swimmer's Sarah Roberts and Adam Harvey have collected the first of the season's hardware last weekend - full report/photos to follow. Marc Slack has also been in action in the BLDSA event held at Colwick Park, Nottingham. I also hear that Safety cover for this event was quite appalling, with is a little disappointing for an event to be run by the BLDSA.

10th June 2007 - More medals and finals made in the second day of the Regional Age Groups held at Ponds forge today. Although no individual medals won by club swimmers, both Ross Glegg and Gareth Mills won Gold and Silver medals with Kingston-upon-Hull, with Gareth narrowly missing out of an individual bronze in the 100m Butterfly. Jack Colley won his way through to his 2nd final of the champs - well done Jack! Congratulations (my congratulations!) go to Kingfisher Club Swimmer Rebecca Whaling for her outstanding performances in winning the Gold medal in the Open 200m Backstroke and a Silver medal in her agegroup 200m Backstroke- Results:

17th June 2007

Scarborough A & B Gala 16/17th June 2007 - It was with extreme regret that the club had to abandon the second day of the Gala due to a major electrical fault occurring with underground cabling failing and therefore no power to circulate the pool or air-conditioning. The problem was completely out of the club's control. Scarborough Swimming Club would like to apologise to everyone who attended our Gala, and hope that you enjoyed the one day we did get, and again apologise for any inconveniences caused.
The club had hoped that NEDL would have a fix in place and get the day started around lunchtime, but this regrettably was not possible. All the results from Saturday 16th June, will be posted on this website in the next few days or so.
Please do not hesitate to contact myself (paulyeoman@yahoo.com) or the club secretary, Mrs Sue Taylor on 01723 367714 if you have any queries.
As the starter/chief timekeeper on Saturday, I thought the gala went extremely well, and I and the rest of Scarborough Swimming Club hope that we will see all you again in 2008.

19th June 2007 - Results from our A & B Gala are available for download - They are in PDF form, so you will require Adobe Acrobat reader to open the files. Word document files will be available next week, which will show the split times, but the PDF documents are available now to ensure that we provide you a good results service.

You may wonder why three documents? I was still experimenting with the programme which created the files, and I didn't want to spend more time in getting the results on line.

A write-up for Scarborough Swimmers can also be read here. I hasten to add that the Scarborough Evening News wanted the report by 0800 this morning (Tuesday) so I apologise in advance if I have inadvertently left anyone out. The report will accompany a number of photos that were taken by their photographer during the day on Saturday.

22nd June 2007 - Important Information regarding Scarborough A & B Gala 2007- After an extraordinary committee meeting, it has been agreed to refund to clubs all entry fees that were charged to clubs for entries taken for the cancelled day, Sunday. As you are obviously aware, the power failure was down to some pretty foul weather but the club and its members want to see our friends again next year, and therefore a refund will be arranged shortly.

23rd June 2007 - Some results from the 'Festival of Open Water Swimming' that took place at the Royal Albert Dock in London last weekend, and the results from Budworthmere where Sarah Roberts and Adam Harvey took part, and won both their races respectfully.

After speaking with the Secretary of Scarborough & District Swimming League, it would appear that he is still waiting on results and team sheets from some of the teams that took part in the first Division 3 Ridings gala held at Driffield a number of months ago. The Division 3 is new this year and all swims in that first gala would be new records, it does seem odd that teams have not complied with the requests and indeed regulations laid down by Scarborough & District. The result of the gala was: 1st Kingfishers S.C Three - 141Pts, 2nd Driffield -136Pts, 3rd Pocklington - 101Pts, 4th Derwent Valley 76Pts.

It is totally unfair that clubs should keep the organisors waiting as it puts extra work their way chasing teams up for team sheets and results. Perhaps it's time to reintroduce the deduction of gala points for those teams that do not comply with the agreed requirements. What do you think?

27th June 2007 - Could I remind all readers of this website that the views and opinions expressed therein, are the views and opinions of myself, Paul Yeoman, and do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of Scarborough Swimming Club, its officers and committee. If anyone feels that they have a cause to complain about anything displayed on these pages then they are to contact me, the webmaster, at paulyeoman@yahoo.com and NOT to contact anyone else connected to the club.

Can I also remind readers that I am not a political animal in any shape or form and any mention of swimmers that hail from our wonderful town of Scarborough is entirely for the sake of providing information to my readers and there is no 'hidden agenda' and it disappoints me that there are narrow-minded people out there who have weird and wonderful opinions of our club. My I courteously remind them that Scarborough Swimming Club is only interested in the well-being of its swimmers and I personally am very proud of the progress made in all aspects of our club which is completely borne out by the performances of our swimmers at major swimming events such as the Yorkshire and North Eastern Regional Agegroup Championships, as the results above show.

Like I said earlier, all views and opinions belong to the webmaster, and suggest that anyone who honestly feel that they have an axe to grind, please contact me at the email address above.
