27th August 2007 - The Ridings records pages have to be updated, and it is hoped that this will be carried out soon.

The month has been a fairly quiet one for the club as a whole, although there have been 4 swimmers competing in the National Championships, as well as a number of Swimmers taking part in Open Water Events. Due to most of the club members enjoying their summer(?) holiday break, reports are few and far between, and results will appear on this web site when they become available. Raw results appear below:

A pre-event report drafted by Lynda Mills for the Scarborough Evening News is re posted below:

National Swimming Championships - Ponds Forge Sheffield

"Four members of Scarborough Swimming Club have qualified for the 2007 National Championships in Sheffield. 18 year old Paul Hargreaves, 14 year old Ross Glegg of Scarborough College and brother's 16 year old Laurence, and 14 year old Gareth Mills of George Pindar Community Sports College

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is to host the ten-day competition which commences on the 23rd July and will see swimmers taking part in the championships which mark an important part of their competitive development on the road to future success.

The boys have achieved a massive 12 Individual National Qualifying times between them in a variety of events the 100 and 200 metres Backstroke, 50, 100, 200 and 400 metres Freestyle. 200 Individual medley and 50, 100, and 200 metres Breaststroke

Gareth and Ross will compete along side the country's top junior swimmers at the Age Group Championships. They will be joined by team mates from Kingston upon Hull Swimming Club, 14 year old Jack Harrison and 14 year old Oliver Fish. The talented four will perform in three relay team events the 4 x 100 metres Freestyle team, the 4 x 200 metres Freestyle team and the 4 x 100 metres Individual Relay team.

Laurence and Paul over many years, have progressed through the ranks of Age Group swimming to compete at National Youth level and the pair will join team mates from Kingston upon Hull to compete in three relay events, which follows on from a very successful qualifying stage at the North East Championships earlier in May.
The National Championships format dictate that swimmers compete in heats, which leads to semi-finals and finals, they also allow club squads to prepare for relay teams and swim competitively.
British Swimming has helped a large number of swimmers to come through age group championships and progress forward to into youth swimming. The system has helped a large number of swimmers to come through over the years and now is the time to be looking for the next crop of talent to emerge and hopefully this competition will identify them.

The next generation of British swimmers will be hoping to prove they have what it takes to swim fast times which will enable them to move up the British rankings."

I had a look at the ASA Website and have copied many of the results straight from their site. There are a number of results there which include swimmers who have competed for us in the past, namely Aimee Ramm and Nathan Renshaw. I apologise in advance for any results missed from the list:
